Winnipeg Canada’s Apollo Suns step boldly into their Color Red debut with the harmonically rich “Lake Country.” While on tour in 2018, the band found themselves with an unexpected day off after a canceled performance in a small town called Lake Country. In Lake Country, there was a small studio overlooking a beautiful lake that set the scene for the band to set up and record for the day. In a similar fashion to Kamasi Washington’s score for the Michelle Obama documentary ‘Becoming,’ the nostalgic four-bar phrasing and minimalistic, emotive chords paint a picture of an incidental moment of time rather than a start-to-finish track. This moment of time represents the band’s love letter to one of their favorite places in their second home of British Columbia, Canada written for the lake, the wind, and nature.
