"Changing" by Josh Hoyer & Soul Colossal was the first tune he wrote off of his full-length Color Red debut album, Natural Born Hustler. While sitting at the piano, he envisioned the chorus he was singing as something that Sam Cooke might sing with a Four Tops, early 60s Motown vibe. During the verses, he plays the chord progression first followed by the lyrics giving the track fresh sonic flavors over a contemplative groove. Lyrically, the song expresses how difficult change can be and how the darker flames burning deep inside ourselves can often be the hardest to extinguish. Hoyer cites "Changing" as his favorite track off the record while tipping his hat to Eddie Roberts for making it come alive with the mix and production.
