AI Policy
Made by humans.
Color Red exists because an artist's voice, their choices, their taste, their fingerprints, is the whole point. Generative AI is changing how music gets made and heard across the industry, and we're paying attention. Our role is simple: uplift the people making the music.
Where We Stand
We recognize that AI is present in the music industry and holds real value for parts of the creative and business process. Our focus, though, is on what we've always stood for: human-made music, held to a human standard. Every release on Color Red comes from a real artist making real creative decisions, start to finish.
What This Means in Practice
Human authorship, always. Every work we sign, release, or represent must be created and controlled by a human songwriter or artist. Music that is substantially or entirely AI-generated, with no meaningful human authorship, has no place in our catalog.
Ownership over rental. The streaming era taught an entire generation of artists and fans to rent access instead of owning anything: no masters, no publishing, no real stake in the work. We built Color Red to push back on that model, and this policy is part of the same fight. Technology should expand what artists own and control, not quietly strip more of it away.
People over algorithms. Data-driven curation optimizes for what's easy to predict, not what's worth hearing. We back human curation, human A&R, and human taste, because the most interesting music has never come from a feed trying to keep you scrolling.
Where This Is Headed
AI in music isn't going away. But the industry's default posture of extract first and ask questions later isn't one we're willing to inherit. As this technology evolves, so will this policy. Any decision we make about AI at Color Red will be judged against one standard: does it give artists more ownership, more voice, and more control, or less?
If it's less, it's not for us.
