MTN Lion - Stealth (ft. Adam Deitch, Adam "Shmeeans" Smirnoff , Joey Porter & Garrett Sayers)
MTN Lion is a powerhouse Denver-based funk quartet composed of drummer Adam Deitch and guitarist Adam “Shmeeans” Smirnoff of Lettuce, alongside keyboardist Joey Porter and bassist Garrett Sayers, both known for their work with The Motet with Sayers as an active member and Porter as member of the group for 17 years up until his departure this January. While their main projects were off the road in 2020 and 2021, the group met at Deitch’s house and started playing—first for themselves, then on a livestream, and soon after assembled in the studio to record their debut album Stealth.
MTN LION began as an informal pursuit after touring paused and left all four in the same place, building on years of overlap in the Denver scene. By that point, they were already crossing paths regularly on local gigs. “There wasn’t any reason we had to do it,” Porter says. “We just wanted to. We like playing with each other. We were all in the same spot. There was nothing happening, so we were like, let’s play some music that we love. That’s what art should be — for nothing except the art.”

Norside - Coal & Soul
Forged in the spirit of Pittsburgh’s working-class roots, Norside’s ‘Coal & Soul’ channels the grit, groove, and raw energy of the Rust Belt into a modern soul-jazz statement. Built around the timeless organ trio format, Norside blends deep-pocket funk rhythms, blues-soaked improvisation, and contemporary jazz influences into what the band calls “Rust Belt Funk.”
The result is a sound that feels both classic and modern, with greasy grooves, smoky melodies, and hard-driving interplay shaped by the industrial pulse of the city that raised them. Much of the album’s material was developed on stage, capturing the chemistry, spontaneity, and edge that define Norside’s performances.
The title Coal & Soul reflects the dual heartbeat of the record. “Coal” symbolizes the hardworking industrial backbone of the region, and “Soul” represents the deep musical spirit running through every track. Rooted in Pittsburgh’s rich jazz, funk, and rock traditions, the album pays homage to the past while pushing the organ trio tradition forward with fearless improvisation and modern energy.
