'Things of That Nature' by Nitecap
Comprised of the core powerhouse musicians Adam Deitch (Lettuce, Break Science), Josh Fairman (SunSquabi, Analog Son), Ian Gilley (DIASTRATA, Flamingosis Live Band), and Drew Birch (DIASTRATA, Flamingosis Live Band), Nitecap locks into deep-pocket grooves, weaving in synth-heavy textures and dynamic arrangements for a sound that is both timeless and boundary pushing.
Nitecap came to life through a shared passion for collaboration and exploration, initially birthed during a rare bout of mutual downtime off the road. What started as late-night jam sessions among longtime friends quickly evolved into a fully realized band, fusing each member’s unique sonic identity into something entirely new. "We spent many sessions just drinking wine, playing, talking, and sharing ideas," recalls Fairman. The chemistry was undeniable, and the music naturally took shape, blending deep grooves with forward-thinking production.
Notable tracks off of the album include "Long Haul," featuring international vocal sensation, Jarrod Lawson whose accolades span his eponymous debut album being hailed as “soul record of the year. "Love and Light" features Deitch's Lettuce bandmate GRAMMY-winning vocalist Nigel Hall. The track speaks to our collective, often-untapped power to make the world a better place if we band together and channels transformative, relentless optimism through Hall’s lens as a Black man living in an unjust world.
On the instrumental side, “Plátonos” is the combination of Gilley’s cutting-edge synth sound and composition mixed with Deitch’s recognizable funky pocket and J. Dilla-inspired drumming that is anchored by Fairman’s confident bass swagger pulling double duty working his engineering magic.
