Tyson Meya
Tyson Meya is a Congolese jazz maestro. He is a musician, singer, and producer of African music that leans towards jazz, pop, and also traditional African music. Meya was born in Kinshasa where he led the band "Bokoko."
Meya came to the attention of Color Red through the label's partner and premier producer, Mike Tallman. As it happens, Tallman and his band were tapped for a State Department’s Arts Envoy Program for a 10-day, cultural exchange visit to the Democratic Republic of Congo. The trip began in Kinshasa were Tallman encountered Meya and his group Bokoko Sounds. Tyson's group played their song “Bokoko,” and Tallman imediatly knew he wanted to work with Tyson on brining his music to the Color Red label.
