Geoff Mann (son of Herbie Mann) reimagines his father’s iconic album ‘Memphis Underground,’ one of the best-selling jazz fusion albums of all-times and one of the earliest recordings to be considered “fusion”. The album was originally released in 1969 and 2025 celebrates its 55th anniversary. This is the first tribute album project for 'Memphis Underground.' In his reimagine of his father’s record, Geoff Mann brings a more current and cinematic feel to it, keeping it honest with his personal musical sensibilities in rock, jazz, and afrobeat. Mann is joined by guitarist Marcos Garcia (aka Chico Mann) who performs in GRAMMY-nominated afrobeat band, Antibalas, Latin GRAMMY Award-Winning flautist Domenica Fossati, Daptone Records mainstay Victor Axelrod on keyboards, and J.P. Maramba on bass. Although he does not play flute on the album, the process of reimagining ‘Memphis Underground’ inspired Geoff Man to pick up the flute himself and he frequently posts videos of his journey on social media. The album was mixed by Eddie Spear, who mixed Brandie Carlile’s GRAMMY-Award-winning album ‘By The Way, I Forgive You’ and the ‘A Star is Born’ soundtrack ft. Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper
