"The Tip-Off" is the title track off an album from The Phil Wilkinson Set, drawing from a lifetime of musical influences including 70s funk. Wilkinson wears several hats as he reigns over guitar, bass, and keyboard duties presenting energetic riffing reminiscent of James Brown and organ work that channels Hammond stars such as Jimmy McGriff and Art Neville. Wilkinson brought the album into Color Red after a longtime friendship with Eddie Roberts and has a robust resume with active tour engagements that include performing with Mary Stallings, Alvin Queen (of Oscar Peterson’s band), and more.
