Eric Martinez collaborated with his Bloodkin bandmate, Daniel Hutchens, in “Can’t Stand Up.” Hutchens penned the lyrics about a stroke he suffered from in December 2016 and it would be the last track the two would collaborate on before Hutchens’ passing in May 2021. Martinez recalls crafting the song and it sounding like it had a particular calling for Hutchens. As the recording process for his forthcoming record ‘Caldera’ came to a close, there was no doubt that this song would close out the record as he envisions it sounding like a move that had a good ending—an uncanny coincidence and spiritual parallel of Hutchens’ transition from the earthly plane. ‘Caldera’ also features the late Todd Nance, the founding drummer of Widespread Panic who passed away in August 2020.
