Max Kaplan & The Magics’ “Loving, I’m Leaving” is molded from southern soul classics of the 60s and 70s to convey the weight of breaking hearts. Kaplan cites the Al Green’s stonewall take on the groundbreaking Bee Gees hit “How Can You Mend a Broken Heart” as a primary influence using a bright chord progression and lustrous vocal melodies. The Memphis-style band of polished musicians and tight horn stabs helps bring the intense feeling of fleeting love to the forefront. The track is Kaplan’s second single on Color Red and part of an ongoing series of music to be released throughout 2022.
