Following their run as support for The New Mastersounds during their US farewell tour, this single is an homage to the soulful jazz-funk legends and memories of this incredible run of shows. Norside shares the story behind the single's title, sharing that The New Mastersounds drummer, Simon Allen, would often ask, "What's the state of play of the room?", before calling up the rest of the band to soundcheck.
