Photon’s Jimmy Dunstan recalls meeting drum n bass legend LTJ Bukem while he was residing in Philadelphia, PA. Inspired by his ability to set the crowd ablaze no matter what he was playing, Dunstan composed “Chickens in Space Part 2” for his live electronic trio, Photon, as a homage to him. The breakbeats and driving synths take an LTJ approach on a variation of the album’s prior track “Chickens in Space Part 1” before segueing into the next section with a sultry, tripped out rallentando reminiscent of modern jazz icons like Thundercat. The song stirs images of chickens running wild over haunting themes and causing a ruckus on their journey through space. In addition to Dunstan, Photon is also comprised of bassist Dan Africano (Thievery Corporation, Death by Dub) and Neal Evans (Dopapod). The EP ‘Stranger Woogs’ comes out ahead of the band supporting the iconic modern jazz quartet, The Bad Plus, at The Bluebird Theater in Denver, CO.
