Michal Menert is a multitalented musician, producer, and vocalist best known for having co-founded the widely influential electronic project Pretty Lights. Electric Beethoven chose to work with Michal on the remix of “The Seventh” because of his unique approach to sound design and his attention to a remix’s global soundscape, as opposed to rehashing the same ideas heard over and over again throughout the popular electronic music spectrum. The group was pleased and pleasantly surprised upon listening to his remix of their interpretation of Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony. Through four distinct and measured approaches, Michal seemed to align with our original intent as his remix moves between each repetition of form, morphing in detail and subtle change while steadily building intensity. In one word: exciting!!
Fans of electronic dance music that find themselves getting fed the same sonic elements and progressions, will be re-energized upon listening to Michal’s take on the 7th. Without going over any listener’s heads, Michal delivers a highbrow approach, leading the listener through the form and delivering them safely across the River Styx. Beethoven would be proud to hear his classic chaotic, and increasingly frantic apocalyptic melody standing the test of time with this unique reinvention!
